Technical Details

This short section goes into some of the technical details.

Technical Details

This game is a technical experiment with cameras, views and the sphere_is_visible() function, which got added to GameMaker some time ago. It makes use of view surface IDs to render the contents of each camera to a view. This surface is then available later on in the draw cycle to be used as a texture on a model, to be drawn in the Draw GUI event, etc. To make that work, the player view is the last view, i.e., view 7. The actual sphere_is_visible() check is performed in the Draw Begin event. If a view is not set to visible, i.e. view_visible[i] = false, then the Draw event isn't performed for that view either, and neither is the sphere_is_visible() check.
